Greed

Obscure producer Telemachus teams with firmly established Hackney vocalist Jerome Thomas on left-field single ‘Greed’. It’s the first single from Telemachus’ impending album release ‘Boring and Weird Historical Music’ which drops on the 22nd of May on High Focus Records.

Jerome dominated last year with his 9 track E.P ‘Moodswings Volume 1’ and in the aftermath of this, I am pleased to see him featuring with a gratuitously conscious producer. Prior works from both artists show a clear consideration and understanding of spirituality and indeed now more than ever, we need to be encouraged to be more conscious.

‘Greed’ is more akin to Trip Hop than Jazz, but it IS Jazz leaning. It seems of late that we have become kinda fat on chilled ‘Jazzy’ instrumentals, and whilst these works may imply a deeper meaning, ‘Greed’ solidifies the urgency of it in speech and dense harmonies. I am pleased that releases in this field appear to be focusing less on dexterity and traditional forms, and more on accessibility and deeper emotional development, for certainly, this track is quite heartbreaking.

The concept is us, and our senseless plundering of the world in the name of our inane human nature. Within a respectable 4 minutes and 10 seconds I felt a deep nostalgia for a healthier world that in truth none of us have ever had the chance to know. I look forward to ‘Boring and Weird Historical Music’ from Telemachus and I can only presume Jerome Thomas is laying the groundwork for ‘Moodswings Volume 2’ this year.
