My Block

Home is forever home.

‘My Block’ is a heartfelt pour out of detailed scenarios that took place throughout his upbringing, and an ode to the place that raised him whilst pointing at the issues that inevitably can occur. The fuzzy sample loop is reminiscent of a dark and gritty 90’s New York, whilst the backup choir and hard-hitting drums add a solid sonic carpet that multiplies the already effective message.

“Lost a lot but they can’t have the diamonds in him/You don’t know what prejudice look like, all because of what you look like”, he raps, with faithful confidence yet disillusioned, embracing the severe truth of reality.

The song has a vivid, throbbing, cinematic feel, where the delivery changes with a crescendo of cut through, thought-provoking bars strong enough to be engraved in ancient rock.

And like every film, the best ones are based on true stories.
