Not Ur GF

Etta Bond reunites with respected producer Raf Riley for her unique brand of vampiric kisses this Valentine's Day with acid bubble gum single ‘Not Ur GF’. It re-confirms what we already knew we loved about her - wild but not stupid, emotional but not naval gazing, and tbh ‘acid’ & ‘bubble gum’ are the only words I can find to aptly describe this track. It’s a lane totally open and when injected with Etta’s trademark poison irony, makes for a much-needed dose of sweet sadistic surrealism.

The vocal never feels forced, and whilst Etta’s subject matter is often love & sexuality, it is the nuance of the demi - emotions that splinter off of those subjects, including humour, that I enjoy. Everyone’s Favourite’s beautifully animated video instantly reminded me of some of the weird shorts by Sophie Koko Gate, delectably violent, drenched in sugar.

My musical relationship with Etta Bond is fresh. I recently saw her at an intimate show performing with SiR, last summer at Cross The Tracks festival and supporting Kojey Radical’s headline show at KOKO. Every time I have seen her perform I am always pleasantly surprised at finding my impenetrable nonchalance melted.
