Sober Feels
Creative and innovative, Nia Archives sets down a marker on new single ‘Sober Feels’. An artist with a versatile and distinctive aesthetic, Nia’s new single is an eclectic fusion, taking influence from a variety of genres. Somewhere between sun-kissed indie pop and liquid drum and bass, this individualistic and stylish attempt sees the artist breaking popular music conventions in a song that manages to be idyllic and pulchritudinous, thanks to the singer's gorgeous vocal tones.
The two main musical elements of the track; the finger picked guitar melody and the hectic, diversifying drum kit, work surprisingly well together. The smooth, appealing guitar chords combat the furious drums and the heavy bass sounds to create a medium that is both deft and exciting. The production, which could have easily sounded overcrowded and messy, is actually tight and compacted, allowing the unusual formula of the song to sound viable. The track's lyrical connotations are thematic and condensed, (and relatable, I mean, who likes how sober feels?!) and the vocal melodies and harmonies are catchy and provoking.
This is an oxymoron of a song. It feels simple and intricate at the same time. It pushes boundaries, which is something that not enough modern music attempts, yet alone pulls off. Nia Archives is a talent.
