Artist Spotlight: Fliptrix

South London powerhouse Fliptrix returns with Freedom? alongside Coops, delivering another bold statement via High Focus Records. Produced by Forest DLG, Elevation features General Levy, Frisco, Kamakaze and Da Flyy Hooligan. Eleventh album. Nineteen tracks. Big energy, sharp insight, serious elevation.

1. Your new single ‘Freedom?’, featuring Coops, is out now on High Focus Records. What  was the main message you wanted to communicate with this track?

I think the hook sums up the message pretty well…

“Smart cities yeah we don't want that, no cash, fully tracked that's wack, we want freedom for ourselves that's a fact, but the fact is we're under attack”.

We're living in some pretty crazy times and there are some massive agendas underway which definitely do not have humanity's best interests at heart. If you haven't clocked that yet it’s definitely time to take notice and start taking steps towards being as self sustainable as possible and not reliant on the systems of control.

2. The song is described as being rooted in deep research and social observation. What specific  themes or real-world issues influenced the lyrics?

Geoengineering, nano-technology, food being affected by pesticides and chemicals, the clothing people wear and how it affects their health, the lighting in our environment and how that affects our health, mobile phone addiction, observations on politics and how most of it is theatrics, the destruction of the alpha male and divine feminine, the transhuman agenda, smart cities, EMF’s, the surveillance state, crypto currencies…

3. Why was Coops the right collaborator for ‘Freedom?’ and how did your creative process  work together?

We make powerful music with a message.

I’ve known Coops for a long while now and we both see the world in a very similar way, we both look into a lot of the same topics and are not scared to talk about our world view in our music.

I knew I wanted to make a track for my new album that focused on these topics and I wanted a feature talking about similar matters from their perspective. People have really been feeling the track so I am glad we made it happen.

4. The music video for ‘Freedom?’ premiered at 11:11am. Was there any special meaning  behind that timing?

I'm really into numerology and 11 is a master number linked to intuition, insight and enlightenment. The 11.11 sequence signifies a bridge between the conscious and the  unconscious mind and with this being my eleventh album it made complete sense to be dropping the right tracks at the right times.

5. ‘Freedom?’ is taken from your upcoming album ‘Elevation’, produced by Forest DLG.  How did working with Forest shape the sound of the project?

It shaped it massively. He’s an inspiration; a true wizard on the production. He’s got a unique  sound and style, very versatile and can really make a track bang and the vocals sound crisp. He’s  mixed and mastered pretty much all of the music across my entire career, plus a large majority of the music that has been released on High Focus Records, so there has always been a tight connection there. It felt like the right time to do a full project together. We’re super happy with how it came out and can’t wait to share it with the world.

6. Elevation features major artists including General Levy, Frisco, Kamakaze, and Da Flyy  Hooligan. How did you decide who to bring onto the album?

We’ve got some incredible artists on this album, it was always part of the plan to push the boat out and elevate, to try to do something different and achieve things that we haven’t done before.

With General Levy, we’ve both listened to a lot of his music since we were young and he’s always been a massive inspiration so it was really epic to work with him. He’s a living legend that’s for sure.

With Frisco & Kamakaze, grime has always been a big inspiration to me. We wanted to capture that uncut live energy with those features and are super happy with how the tracks came out.

I’ve known Da Flyy Hooligan for a while. I recently did a feature on one of his projects titled ‘LO&B’ on a track called ‘AGAIN’. He’s a super dope artist and I respect his grind and the trajectory that he’s on, he’s also known Forest  DLG for a very long time too so it just felt right to get him on the album too.

7. The album also includes a 20-strong High Focus posse cut on ‘Dangerous’. What was it like  coordinating such a large group of artists?

Haha LONG! But well worth it and big respect to everyone for coming through. It’s an epic track man.  Tracks like this don’t come round everyday. Super proud we managed to put it together. It’s definitely going to go down as one of the most legendary posse cuts to come out of the UK.

8. With 19-tracks on the album, how did you approach sequencing and storytelling across the  project?

It’s a concept album with the overarching theme inspired by elevating your mind, body and soul.

So many of the tracks touch on this theme in different ways; from tracks dropping knowledge, to tracks about transformation, living in the heart, addiction, occult wisdom, the divine feminine, energy, finding freedom, healing pain and generational trauma, having a positive mind state and how to achieve your dreams, raising your vibration, coming from living an inner city life to living off grid in the Portuguese mountains and so on.

If you want more than your surface level rapper chatting about how cool they are, what clothes they wear, what they drink and what weed they smoke etc then this album is for you. It’s deep, it’s honest, it has focus, passion and meaning and actually stands for something. Something positive.

I make music for self therapy and exploration but also to help guide the listener too. When I’m gone I want to leave behind an incredible legacy that will live on for many years. Not just for what I have created as ‘Fliptrix’ but also what I have done with my group ‘The Four Owls’ and the legacy I’ve built through founding and running High Focus Records.

9. Tracks like ‘Teacher’, ‘Who’s the Saviour’ and ‘Tears in the Eyes of Gaia’  suggest strong  themes. How do these songs reflect your current mindset?

They are all designed to elevate.

On ‘Teacher I’m just dropping knowledge for three minutes straight with no hooks, focussing a lot on the totalitarian system. ‘Who’s the Saviour’ was written at a very transformational point in my  life and that is the key focus, shedding old ways and habits and embracing the new you and becoming what you wish to become. ‘Tears In The Eyes Of Gaia’ is very much about healing and generational trauma.

I would say they reflect my current mindset in the way that I embrace music to spread a message and also help me with healing on my own personal journey.

10. Elevation is set for release on 26th February on physical and digital formats with the full  album dropping on streaming services a month later on the 26th March. Why was it  important for you to release the album in this way?

Firstly, both Forest DLG and I have a real love for physicals and we put a lot of time, effort and investment into creating the Vinyl, CD, Tape and accompanying clothing range. We have a lot of respect for people who want to support and buy the physical product, so it’s nice to let them have a moment with the music before it’s available to the wider public.

Secondly, many of these streaming platforms are unethical so it’s also a statement in terms of putting the power back in the artists hands by working the ‘sell before you stream’ angle.

Finally after releasing ten solo albums to date, it feels like a good time to switch up the release strategy, both the vinyl & CD come with gold foil embossed covers with the amazing artwork Forest DLG put together so it’s a nice touch that people can really appreciate that early.

I’ve still got love for everyone, however they want to digest the music. I'm just pleased that people enjoy it and take something positive from the art and I’m able to support myself and my family through my craft.

11. You’ve been a key figure in High Focus Records for many years. How has the label  supported your artistic growth on this project?

I’ve been there from the start and am super proud of what we have created.

I’ve got a good flow of making my dreams a reality so I’ve been doing just that. Shoutout to the team  who work with the label too, I couldn’t have achieved what I have without the fantastic team around me.

12. Working with artists like Frisco and General Levy, who come from different generations  of UK music, what did you learn from those collaborations?

I learnt a lot, particularly through the General Levy collaboration, as he’s a generation up from  Frisco, but yeah man his energy is something else. He’s a super positive guy and it was interesting to hear his stories of the early chapters in his journey, his experience pressing records, touring and still being super active to this day. He’s definitely a big inspiration that’s for sure.

Frisco is inspiring too as he’s been active for a couple of decades and is in the best place in his career in 2026 in my opinion. He’s been dropping some of his best music recently and that’s also inspiring to see.

13. The album’s pre-order and full track listing were released alongside ‘Freedom?’. How  important is transparency and direct communication with fans to you?

It felt great to drop the full track list and give people an insight into the topics on the album, plus the full list of features.

It’s definitely important to be transparent with people through the music. I try to get back to as many of my fans as possible. However, I definitely prefer face-to-face interactions over social media; I always go out into the crowd to chat to people and sign vinyl after every show. It's nice to connect in the real world.

14. Looking at songs like “Visionaries” and “The Divine Feminine” what personal  experiences influenced those tracks?

‘Visionaries’ was inspired by growing up in South London and the time I spent in Camberwell where the first ever High Focus studio was. Frisco reps North London so there’s a strong balance there.

‘The Divine Feminine’ leans into living in a male dominated world where women aren’t always depicted or treated as they should be. I wanted to make a sincere song to give them the love and respect they deserve. I also talk about the home birth of my daughter and that I delivered her myself without any medical intervention. The track features both of my children talking at the end so you can’t get much more personal than that.

15. With ‘Elevation’ marking a major moment in your career, how do you feel this album represents your evolution as an artist?

I think it’s the culmination of all the skills, contacts, inspiration and personal growth that I have  developed over the last twenty years in the game.

It’s definitely my most progressive and unique offering and I’m extremely proud of it.

For sure it represents where I am in my life right now and if you were to listen back through all my albums the evolution is clear as day.

I’m taking this album on tour with DJ Jazz T across MAY/JUNE this year with shows booked in London, Brighton, Bournemouth, Bedford, Manchester, Birmingham, Tunbridge Wells, Newcastle, Southampton, Bristol & Dublin.
