Calling My Name

Genre-blending multi-faceted soulstress Freya Roy has returned with Calling My Name; another heavenly slice of ethereal pie.

Expertly crafting her own stylistic evolution, Freya combines the sultry, delicate timbre of neo-soul with the musical intricacy of nu jazz and atmospheric elements of electronica. Freya’s most recent offering was the beautifully broody Fantasies Reimagined featuring Gabriel Gifford and Maya Law, with this new cut continuing the singer’s path through sonic and emotional expressionism.

Calling My Name sees Freya illustrating her expertise in conveying feelings through vocal and instrumental nuances. The densely textured and moody production is directly linked to the lyrical themes flowing through the track, with Freya exploring themes of desire and temptation. The track is accompanied by a striking and stylistic music video featuring professional dancer Salomé Pressac, who delivers a compelling physical performance that conveys the lyrical emotions through her physical expression.

Commenting on the release, Freya remarked:

Whilst at a turning point in a relationship, I had a confrontational conversation with someone one evening which left me awake throughout the whole night. It’s a bit of a confession.. but I’ve written about giving in to these intense feelings of desire. At the time it felt selfish, but I couldn’t help myself so I let it all wash over me.
