Chop (Henry The 8th)

Birmingham royalty Jaykae makes his long awaited return with hard hitting single ‘Chop (Henry the 8th)’.

One of the most successful spitters to come out of the Midlands, Jaykae has impressed rap fans with his raw, organic and original take on grime since 2017 mixtape ‘Where Have You Been’. Having appeared alongside world conquering artists, Jaykae’s stock has soared, recently heard on the seminal Ghetts album via ‘Mozambique’. While his feature game has been strong over the past few years, we haven’t received much solo content from him, so this new drop comes as a welcomed surprise.

The production from Swifta is crunchy and colourful with eerie synths, boisterous bass and fierce drums offering up the sonic palette for Jaykae to bring his infectious energy in abundance. His debonair, laidback flow is juxtaposed by his raspy delivery and vivid, purposeful lyricism. The track is married with a vibrant and extravagant visual that sees Jay partaking in a variety of miscellaneous, historical activities such as riding in a horse and carriage, feasting with royal companions and having a front row seat to a beheading.

One of the most compelling and consistent artists in the UK rap scene, Jaykae is well on his way to national and potentially global stardom. The familiar whiff of a new project is in the air.
