Bag Of You

On Bag Of You, Mahalia manages to colourfully detail the everyday actions and gestures of being in the early stages of a loving relationship with a poetic approach.

Produced by JD Reid and Max Pope, the soundscape of the dreamy world that Mahalia built is grounded by a strummed guitar that gently plays a simple rift. Still effective, the guitars add to the tenderness of the track that is brought forth by Mahalia’s delightfully sweet by shy vocals.

Known for being a great storyteller, the Leicester born songstress comments on the remarkable power that love has in brightening up your life. She enchants us as every note she sings allows you to see the romantic story play out in front of your very ears. She coos and serenades but ultimately, it’s during pockets of the song where she is self-aware that her love, whilst genuine, could also be too deep at times.

Mahalia states:

This song is one of my favourites so far. ‘Bag Of You’ is all about that sweet spot in a relationship when everything is just lovely. where the idea of being without that person - even just for a second - is too much to bare. I love everything about this record. It’s definitely the start of what’s to come next year.

The track follows after last year’s EP and the visuals directed by Oliver Kane is a intimate collections of both colour and black & white cinematically shot with a heavy emphasises on close up’s whilst Mahalia and her love interest are enjoying themselves on the beach. The video begins with a monologue by Mahalia that sets the scene to the moment before she met him.

The new release signals the start of a new personal and creative era of Mahalia, and we cannot wait to see what she brings out in the new year.
