Don't Be Ashamed

This one is deep, reflective and inspirational, not only for those suffering with mental health problems, but for anyone who is in need of a little pick me up after the world's handed them the wrong card. London Rapper Shocka is known for his deep personal tracks and has gifted his fans with another one titled Don't Be Ashamed featuring Sami Switch.

Produced Shocka's longtime producer Cin, fortified the single's deep message with a soulful piano backdrop with Sami Switch powerful but gentle vocal helping drill in the message of hope in the hook. Shocka stated the intention behind writing Don’t Be Ashamed at first was to help people with the shame attached to being sectioned. Not one to shy away from speaking his truth, he has made us aware of his battle with Mental Health which saw him sectioned 4 times and diagnosed with Schizophrenia. He uses this to educate, uplift and heal himself and others who may suffer or not, paving a safe space where you are encouraged to learn and talk more in the topic.

On his journey Shocka stated:

I’ve made it my mission to help as many people eradicate their feeling of shame. This is why I started this off by saying the intention was to help people with the shame around sectioning but now I’ve realised the purpose is much bigger.

Shocka’s story thus far has seen him part of the legendary Grime collective Marvell, tour with some of the industry's heavy hitters such as Skepta. His mission has also seen him interviewed by on the matter of Mental Health by ITV News, The Guardian and host his very own TedxTalk.

I am listening and learning every time I listen to Shocka and I encourage you to do the same. Excited to see what is next.
