Exclusive Premiere: arliworld - SHOOK

Birmingham-born, London based producer and vocalist arliworld releases debut video ’SHOOK’ featuring miamusa. The video, directed by Danni Ebanks-Ingram and Marley Starskey Butler is an ode to Arli’s musical journey and reflects a story of isolations, vulnerability and collective joy. Fusing choppy organs and melancholic strings, “SHOOK” re-inforces arliworlds productive ability too.

Having taken a ten-year hiatus, arliworld returns with a refined sonic palette blending experimental breaks and electronics to fuse an individual soundscape. Shook received it’s first radio play last week from Theo Johnson. Discussing the single in further detail, Arli said:

Shook is my attempt to channel the energy of Grime as it was when I was a teenager, with the kind of vulnerability I could never have imagined back then. Over the course of three short, but intense, 8-bar verses, I explore themes of mistrust, paranoia, isolation and anxiety. The weight of these verses is balanced by the chorus, which feels a little lighter due to its catchiness.

Speaking on the visual, Arli commented:

We specifically used MiniDV cameras and filmed onto tape, mirroring the technology used at the time of early Grime DVD’s, which is the era we all come from.”

Chosen as one of Giles Peterson and Brownswood Recordings Future Bubblers, Arliworld is due for an exciting year ahead.
