Exclusive Premiere: NvM - Break It Down

Boisterous newcomer NvM allows us into his tumultuous lifestyle with raging drill banger Break It Down

Currently serving a five year sentence in prison, NvM is amongst a growing list of rappers on a journey towards popularity and acclaim whilst locked away. Raised in the Midlands, Nvm’s storytelling is vivid, dipped in street habits, raw in its image of hardship, violence and glamour. He has risen through the musical ranks over the past year with a series of robust freestyles, and now finally releases his official new single Break It Down

The track is bullish and pithy, with Nvm building a trap-laden narrative of drugs and women over the lively, energetic drill instrumental.  The vibrant accompanying visual mirrors dark and light, sugar and drugs, perhaps insinuating the duality of his lifestyle.

I spoke to Nvm about his sound, the new release and what’s next for the rapper.

How did you first start creating?

I started creating when I was younger, I saw the olders drop rap battles on facebook about each other and loved the energy. Ive been writing since then.

How would you define your sound?

I would define my sound as UK rap. I like to think I’m versatile and can jump on fast beats and slow beats - UK rap, drill and hip hop but i love writing uk rap freestyles that talk about pain and real life. That being said, I understand to be recognised you need to be able to make a track thats catchy and remembered. I try to create both.

What are you trying to convey with the new release?

This release is to show that I can make tracks, I'm not just a freestyle rapper. My aim is to turn heads and get my name recognised. This track is about the life I live and the way I think in my day to day life.

What do you want listeners to take away from it?

I want people to take away the fact I can make different types of music and I'm versatile. From this track onwards until and after my release, I want people to see that Im heading for the top and I wont stop until I get there.

What's to come from you?

We have a new track coming out late this year/early next year. We are just about to shoot the video then it's all about when the right time is. I have a lot planned for next year and my aim is to stay consistent with the music I release.
