Funeral

James Blake is a decade into his career and still releasing some of the most intense, emotive music we’ve heard. ‘Funeral’ features Slowthai and is certainly no exception. 

This new version featuring the Northampton emcee is a bonus track from his latest album, and is accompanied by a gloomy single shot, black and white video which tonally works perfectly for the bleak track. 

‘Friends That Break Your Heart’ is the fifth album from the British singer songwriter, and is some of his sharpest, most passionate work yet. Whilst we certainly miss the glitchy, electronic sound palettes of his older work (despite last years brilliant ‘Before’ EP which saw him pay tribute to this style), James Blake has grown as a musician, and even though his recent music is less experimental, it’s still incredibly impactful. 

slowthai is also one for emotionally heavy subject matter and relatable lyricism. James Blake and Thai are 2 for 2, following last year’s incredible ‘Feel Away’, a stunning single from slowthai’s ‘Tyron’. He pens some heartfelt lyrics in his short verse, with poignant quotables like ‘I been the dust on top of trophies, the rust that makes it homely, the crust that no one wants, I was forgotten, I’ve gone mouldy’. 

The duo even performed the song on Jimmy Fallon, further showing their chemistry together.
