Headrush

Jeshi is taking the scenic route home from the club with Headrush, a ten track mixtape that brings his rap roots into conversation with his love of dance music. Released through Select Discs and Partisan Records, the project draws on teenage adventures from Walthamstow to Essex, where extravagant nightclubs offered an escape long before getting through the door was straightforward.

That sense of discovery gives Headrush its central spark. Jeshi remembers a freedom that came without needing encyclopaedic record knowledge or membership of the coolest crowd. His approach carries that invitation forward, creating space for personal songwriting within music made to meet people on the dancefloor. Trainers on, inhibitions off.

The guest list certainly gives the group chat something to discuss. Fredwave and Big Ever join “champagne”, Cameo Blush appears on “linea rossa”, and X CLUB. link up with Jeshi for the title track. Ineffekt contributes to opener “peace at last”, Just Lil features on “make me sane”, and Oscar Farrell closes proceedings alongside Jeshi on “before u”. Throw in “PSYCHO!”, “thames”, “at the wheel” and “carousels”, and all ten tracks are accounted for.

Headrush also follows a busy 18 months featuring collaborations with Celeste, Leon Vynehall, Vegyn and Ross From Friends, plus the recent Oscar Farrell collaboration “Greyhound”. Those connections provide context for a project built around Jeshi’s longstanding interest in the space between rap and club music.

The most appealing part is the intention behind it. Having spent time DJing at friends’ parties, Jeshi wanted songs that could hold his experiences and then head straight into a room full of dancers. There is something exciting about that immediacy: life becomes music, music becomes a shared night out. Headrush puts that impulse centre stage, with a guest list ready to follow him towards the speakers. Someone keep an eye on the coats.
