Irrelevant Elephant

East End storyteller Hak Baker makes an important point on ‘Irrelevant Elephant’. This is the second release from his upcoming EP to express the negative effects of intoxication as both a hobby and a habit.

On the tail of title track ‘Cool Kids’, ‘Irrelevant Elephant’ is a stripped-back single that sees Hak Baker return to his DIY roots of desolate guitar and layered vocals. Stark and sobering, he sheds light on the elephant in the room amongst many party people: the realities of addiction and dependency.

Describing how he felt during the tune’s inception, Hak said:

I wrote ‘Irrelevant Elephant’ when I was in the worst of places. Hanging off me head, everyday. Not having the best of relationships with anybody. It was a cathartic process man. Subconsciously we had to address some shit.

Claustrophobic yet cartoony, the music video shows Baker in the grips of Bryson Williams and Prathik Poojary’s “malevolent elephant”. Representing the metaphor visually, we see how the cockney crooner’s problems grow the more they’re ignored.

As introspective and applicable as ever, this new offering maintains a high standard for Hak Baker’s EP, out soon via his own imprint Hak Attack Records.
