Maggie To Sip

Northern general Chiedu Oraka flaunts his versatility with pensive new number ‘Maggie To Sip’.

We’ve been admirers of the Hull frontrunner for quite some time now, with his seven track EP ‘Ave Life’ - released earlier this year - just the cherry on top of an impressive discography of releases. The Black Yorkshireman is one of the most authentic rappers in the UK, with prideful identity and powerful messages flowing through his dynamic storytelling. A pinnacle figure in the Northern Grime revolution and evolution, Chiedu and his label Room 73 are responsible for developing the Hull rap scene into a burgeoning and exciting showcase of distinctive and uncensored talent.

This new one is a slight change of pace to the robust, aggressive and pacy sound of ‘Ave Life’, with Chiedu and producer Deezkid opting for a chilled rap beat, with appealing synths and airy production the sonic palette. There’s still room for Chiedu’s signature cheeky bars, this time with a laidback, nuanced delivery. Despite the more relaxed approach, Chiedu succeeds in dominating the beat with his gruff Northern tone and sharp flow. The whole thing just oozes charisma.

One of the most undeniable names in modern rap, Chiedu has done so much for his city; both in the booth and on the streets. A top bloke and a top musician. If you don’t know him, get to know.
