Muscle Twitch

Leeds based ATO comes through with profound offering ‘Muscle Twitch’.

After dropping two poignant and affecting singles in 2020, the reminiscent ‘Yours Now’ and the emotionally dense ‘family first’, ATO returns with another serenely impassioned effort - the first insight into his highly anticipated summer EP.

The multicultural singer/rapper of Ghanaian and Danish descent is one of the UK’s most ardent and authentic newcomers, with a translucent energy and cultured style that is indebted to his globe trotting childhood. Having bubbled under the surface with his broody and introspective approach, ATO’s Vic Mensa featuring ‘falling’ saw him gain some much deserved media plaudits, garnering praise from the likes of Complex and Trench.

‘Muscle Twitch’ is creatively structured with snappy hats, murky synths and booming bass constructing an intense and purposeful soundscape that builds into a fervent and endorphin-filled climax. With evocative lyricism circling around ATO’s experience with abrupt and overawing anxiety, there remains something endearing in the often devastating narration.

Discussing the track, ATO remarked:

‘Muscle Twitch’ gives quite a vivid description of a young man caught between his potential and his shortfalls. In many ways, I think it’s as much a reflection of the times as it is of my personal experience.

Heartrending and brashly delicate, ATO is a member of the exclusive genre bending club who are threatening to force the underground into mainstream attention (see Wesley Joseph, Berwyn, NAYANA IZ, etc). Alternative music is damn good right now.
