No Love

Leicester’s Sainté looks set to continue his impeccable rise to stardom, recruiting R&B luminary Miraa May for pensive number ‘No Love’.

Throughout the last eighteen months, Sainté has soared from a relative unknown to one of the most significant players in a very strong field of alternative rappers. His seamless energy, charismatic flow and silky, West Coast inspired instrumentals have caught the ear of listeners, with the unique combination of jazz, R&B and hip hop standing out in the UK scene.

In early 21’, the Midlands man released an impressive EP ‘Local Mvp’, with four effortlessly dynamic tracks, which was followed by a single of a similar ilk, ‘Old Times’. This new one, however, is a change of pace for the rapper, here opting for a wistful, poignant approach, greatly aided by the exceptional Tottenham singer-songwriter Miraa May.

The best music flows with narrative and sonic purpose; ‘No Love’ does this in abundance. The melodies are emotive and driven, the production, from frequent collaborator Brad Baker, is spacious and atmospheric, and both artists put in tenacious vocal performances. The track is accompanied by a poignant video directed by the hotly tipped multi-talented aboveground.

The latest in a growing list of crossovers between upcoming R&B/pop and alternative rap starlets, Sainte and Miraa’s effort follows in the footsteps of collaborations such as Kam-bu and Rachel Chinouriri’s ‘Stuck’, Jaydonclover and Danny Sanchez’s ’Callme’, and Master Peace and Mae Muller’s ‘Boyfriend’. These link ups are allowing fans to see these artists in a different light - illustrating their diversity and the strong connection that the UK underground scenes uphold. We love to see it.
