Satan Doesn't Swim

Plucked from his upcoming debut album Xin’s Disappearance, Nix Northwest proceeds on his quest for sonic serenity, offering up a mellow helping of jazz-laden hip-hop with latest single Satan Doesn’t Swim

A lifelong passion for music has led Nix to develop into one of the best multi-faceted artists in the UK. It’s evident how persistently and carefully Northwest has worked to master his craft over the past few years, collaborating with the likes of Enny, B-ahwe and Lausse The Cat (come back, Lausse). His 2019 debut EP Life’s A Bitch, I Just Need an Early Night saw Nix accumulate critical and public admiration, with the rapper set to continue his quest for rightful wide-spread acclaim.

Satan Doesn’t Swim, which succeeds The Occasional L as the sophomore insight into the new body of work, is a dreamy, introspective and vibrant endeavour towards our narrator Xin’s journey towards blissful solitude. There is the distinct influence of Samba and Brazilian folk and jazz, which is both refreshing and compelling, with Nix illustrating his nuanced musicianship and effortless artistry.

Primed to be the closing track from the highly anticipated project, Nix explains:

The song is about letting go of the fears, temptations and ego that restrict us in truly finding acceptance and love within ourselves. The song also evokes a sense of the bittersweet, as Xin has had to leave behind his home city along with a lot of his friends and family in order to achieve this mental freedom.

Following in the footsteps of collaborator and confidant Lausse the Cat, Nix’s upcoming album is narrative driven, with the rapper taking us through the thoughts and happening’s of recurring protagonist Xin.
