Secrets

Jelani Blackman returns with a clinical flow and inescapable energy on his new single ‘Secrets’. Initially stumbling upon his COLORS performance of ‘Hello’, I had an inkling something special was going on. Now, he’s settled in his own lane, churning out back-to-back hits.

This new track starts with a distinctive chopped instrumental that’s simple and allows Jelani’s voice to shine. When the pan flute comes in, you’re well aware of what’s about to happen. His vocal presence is instantly recognisable as he delivers line after line of quick-witted lyricism with the occasional pop culture reference woven in. “Them man just evil, deceitful but not me I’m Evil Knievel”.

A standout feature of Jelani’s performance is his light-hearted attitude. The occasional laugh and acceleration of energy mean for a personable performance and it’s obvious he is simply just having fun. And if that wasn’t authentic enough for you, add on the fact that this track is self-produced.

Truly an expert in his craft.
