Self Care

Bilingual artists consciously intertwining their culture heritages to develop a new, enriching sound is unfortunately still a rarity in the modern R&B scene, but Nina Cobham’s latest single Self Care proves that this is the way forward for the genre.

Splitting her time between Leeds and Southern Spain, Cobham uses the influences of both heritages to develop innovative bilingual tracks that have gained traction internationally. However, Self Care showcases that Cobham can still bring a fresh feel to her tracks without relying on her Spanish heritage – instead she combines soothing lo-fi beats with dreamy synths to create a lowkey, yet deeply soulful track. Inspired by the works of Mac Miller, Cobham borrows the title of one of his top tracks whilst adopting the overall essence of his works – somehow managing to both match his occasional upbeat, energetic vibe whilst mirroring his ritualistic use of lyrics to create a calm-inducing sense of nostalgia.

A diversion from the themes and style of her 2021 debut EP what colour does this feel like?, Self Care promises a future of thought-provoking tracks that will have you begging for more.
