Spice

West Australian hip hop artist Chani turns up the heat with Spice, a five track EP that feels vibrant, confident and refreshingly self assured. The Scarborough based artist returns following a period of reinvention, stepping forward with renewed clarity while staying true to the fearless storytelling and sharp lyricism that first put her on the map.

Known for blending genres with ease, Chani moves comfortably between hip hop, funk, electro pop and touches of drum and bass across the project. The result is a colourful listening experience that feels both nostalgic and forward thinking, balancing groove driven production with deeply personal writing. There is a sense throughout Spice that Chani is enjoying herself more than ever, inviting listeners into moments of vulnerability, empowerment and playful attitude.

Lead single “High” stands out as the EP’s centrepiece. Produced by Rob Shaker of SBX and Sylabolix and featuring smooth vocals from Just Kane, the track explores lust and attraction through witty storytelling and relaxed confidence. Written during an intense situationship, Chani’s verses unfold like an honest stream of thought, giving the song an intimate charm while maintaining an easy late night energy.

Previously released singles “Magnetic,” “Casual,” and “Inside” expand the EP’s emotional and sonic palette. “Magnetic” leans into shimmering electro pop textures, while “Inside” offers introspection that highlights Chani’s ability to balance conscious lyricism with catchy hooks. Together, the tracks reflect themes of rebuilding, identity and self empowerment.

Chani has long pushed boundaries within Australian hip hop, from her WAM nominated single “Finding My Feet” to her crowdfunded debut album Life Sounds Like and the FringeWorld nominated production Bows Don’t Go. With Spice, she reasserts herself as a dynamic voice in the scene, delivering a release that feels bold, personal and unmistakably her own. The EP is tight, expressive and full of personality, proving that Chani’s evolution is only just getting started.
