The Occasional L

One of the most creative and stylistically refined artists to emerge from the alternative rap field in recent times, Nix Northwest rewards fans for their avid patience, finally unveiling the first single from his upcoming debut album, the subtly thrilling and musically intricate ‘The Occasional L’.

An artist whose expressive approach to music is as refreshing as it is stimulating, Nix demanded the attention of listeners with his collaborative work on the peerless craft-master Lausse the Cat’s flawless EP. The rapper and producer released his own debut EP ‘Life’s a Bitch, I Just Need an Early Night’ back in 2019. A stunning, inward-peering masquerade through the mind of a relatable and flawed young man, the project’s striking introspection illustrated Nix as amongst the most poignant and passionate lyricists in the UK scene.

After tying us over through 2020 with The Silhouettes Project collaboration ‘What U Need’ and vibrant single ‘Drive Slow’, Nix has returned with purpose and maturity on ‘Occasional L’. The rhymes are sharp and subtle, the musings condensed and thoughtful, and the production is rich and textured. Revolving around a off-beat yet uplifting narrative surrounding rejection and unrequited adoration, Nix uses his savvy, elegant wordsmithery to manifest the familiar tale as a reminder that in life we all lose sometimes - it’s how we react to the losses that truly reflects on us as individuals.

Speaking on the new release, Nix commented:

’The Occasional L’ is a song which reflects upon the feelings of being romantically rejected. However, instead of mulling over his damaged ego, Xin brushes it off and moves on - reminding us that we all have to take an occasional L
