Scottish producer fin enlists the likes of Clbrks and Kish! for his eclectic solo EP ‘the sky is looking nice’.

The musical alias of Finlay Mowat, the Edinburgh based musician and producer has soared to prominence in the Scottish underground scene. A background in drumming has led to a groove-laden and dynamic stylistic approach, and after perfecting his production aesthetic over the past few years, fin has finally dropped his anticipated debut body of work, which merges unique and absorbing palettes of alternative R&B and hip hop.

Inspired by an array of sounds and textures, the project features diverse and vibrant soundscapes; from sample based hip hop to commercial, sunny R&B. The features that fin has been able to accumulate are impressive, with underground favourites Clbrks and Kish providing highlights. The project also features fellow Scot Jordan Phillips, whose delicate, celestial vocality ensures ‘carry the weight’ is a standout moment on the project. Relative unknowns Nostalgiac and Motorola Samuria also captivate on ‘finger things’ and ‘run freestyle’ respectively.

Speaking on the EP, fin commented:

I set out to make this project to make the most of samples that I had collected over the years, with an aim to transform them into something that wholeheartedly represents my sound. The collaborative aspect of getting exciting artists to feature really inspired me to shape the project into something unique that will hopefully stand out.

A generous and appealing collection of tracks, fin hopes that his ambitious and creative efforts will stand out in a saturated market, offering a fresh take on old skool sounds.
