Things Are Changing Too Quickly

Chartreuse announce new EP ‘Is It Autumn Already’ and share teaser single, the powerful and intrinsic ‘Things Are Changing Too Quickly’.

One of the brightest bands to come out of the Midlands in recent years, Chartreuse’s previous EP’s have shown their striking lyrical confidence, nuanced musicality and silky production. Stand out tracks such as ‘Midnight Oil’ and ‘Keep Checking up on Me’ have built the four-piece a steady fan base. Offering a sprawling genre fluidity that most bands can barely dream of achieving, Chartreuse borrow from the likes of Jazz, Soul, R&B and classical music to amalgamate a one-of-a-kind and deeply affecting sound.

On ‘Things Are Changing Too Quickly’, intricate guitar lines, smooth bass and pacy percussion make up the pertinent soundscape that is reminiscent of middle years Radiohead. The vocal tones are immensely unique and soulful; softly grumbling through the vivid narrative with musing sincerity.

Speaking on the new single, the band’s lead singer/songwriter, Mike, explained:

This song is based on a fake birthday party in my head, getting one year older and not understanding why no-one else is freaking out, ‘Will someone come and hold the house down I think it’s blowing away’. As I get further into my twenties I feel like I catastrophize getting older a little more each year… I guess to put it simply I was worried about not making the most of my time.

This is a band with genuine soul and acutely focused innovation. Not on your radar? They should be.
