Despite only releasing music as an artist this year, Scribz Riley is not new to the music scene. His music career reaches all the way back to 2003, as part of the collective Mucky Wolfpack and in recent years, he has amounted great recognition by creating hit singles for the likes of Cardi B, H.E.R, Chris Brown and Khalid. Having gained a multitude of knowledge and experience, the two-time Grammy-nominated producer made his debut as an artist this year by giving fans his first ever single ‘East Side’. An ode to his old stomping ground in East London, this compelling and soft track laid the foundations of what fans will come to know of Scribz Riley as an artist. Four singles later, he has released his debut ten-track EP, ‘Wish Me Luck’.

The first track of the EP ‘On My Sleeve’ features Texan singer Kaash Paige and creates a slow-burning introduction to the project. The feature-heavy first half contains previously released singles ‘Mandy’ and ‘Impress Me’ featuring UK heavyweight Headie One, tracks that stand out even more in the context of the EP. His impressive feature list boasts a range of different artists such as 6LACK, who adds a dimension and depth to ‘Dim My Light’ on a much darker production than the previous tracks. As we near to the end of the project, we encounter softer tempos in ‘East Side’ and ‘Secretly’ which brings the EP to a beautiful close in a final ode to a previous lover.

Themes of love, heartbreak and acceptance a prominent within this project, and Scribz Riley has done an amazing job at musically expressing a journey that we can go on with him. Each track on this project feels thoughtful and soulful, and Scribz Riley’s expressiveness is something that is missing within the UK R&B scene. As a whole, this EP easily could have been a debut album, but this does create a buzz of excitement as to what fans can expect from his album in the future. ‘Wish Me Luck’ gives us a look at what Scribz Riley can create as an artist, and he surely needs no luck at all as he embarks on this new journey.
