Zaiy's Intro

Zaiy's recently released instrumental debut EP, Zaiy's Intro, may only be two tracks long, which could lead you to doubt its ability to keep your focus. However, it successfully manages to keep your attention with seven minutes of a combination of soulful afrobeats and beats that create a smooth, funky atmosphere.

The first track ‘Pull Up,’  is seductively mysterious until the beat drops and it morphs into a hypnotic afrobeat anthem. “Pull Up,” which features fellow rising Nigerian singer Lilcase is riveting, and a winning track for a self-styled storyteller.

Following this is ‘I See You’, a track that allows for a dreamy baseline accompanied by mature lyrics that exude pure confidence in Zaiy’s vocal dexterity. And his aptitude for combining the sounds inspired by his Nigerian roots with fresh beats to create both hit songs is like no other, proving that his lifelong passion for music will set him levels above the rest.

Generally speaking, Zaiy's Intro is remarkable given its shortness. It's the kind of album that would fit perfectly in a club late at night, both dreamy enough so as not to be too intrusive, yet melodic enough to keep listeners engaged. If you're a fan of Afrobeats and Afropop but don't want anything too intense, this EP is definitely for you.
