ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: B ANCA

West London's B Anca is making waves with her uplifting blend of R&B and pop. With over 18 million Spotify streams on Waiting and collaborations alongside Tion Wayne and Skrapz, she continues to connect through honest storytelling. Fresh from releasing Push Push Baby, B Anca shares her journey, resilience and exciting plans ahead.

1. For anyone just tuning in, who is B Anca and what is your sound saying right now?

I'm a singer-songwriter from West London. B Anca is a play on the word 'anchor'. For me, it represents strength, resilience, hope and staying grounded, but also adventure and new journeys. An anchor keeps you rooted, but it also allows you to set sail.

R&B is my foundation, but I love experimenting with different sounds and styles. I don't like to put myself in a box. With Push Push Baby, the verses are rooted in my R&B background, but the song has pop hooks that make it feel uplifting, catchy and accessible. For me, it's always about finding the best sound to tell the story.

2.You first jumped on a remix with your uncle to a 112 and Faith Evans track when you were around five years old. Do you remember how that felt?"

Yeah, I remember it. My uncle had recently moved to the UK after losing his mum and was renting a small room in Harrow. He had this little DJ setup squeezed into the room, and that's where we recorded the track. At the time, I didn't realise the song was actually a tribute. I was just excited to be involved. I remember trying to get my timing right, learning the rhythm and words, and enjoying the creative process. My uncle would be rapping in his African accent, and we'd just be making music in this tiny room. Looking back, it's one of my earliest and fondest memories of music.

3. Did that early moment spark the confidence you carry into your music today?

I think it definitely planted a seed. Looking back, I was learning things I didn't even realise I was learning at the time—how to sit in a song, how to listen to rhythm, how to tell a story through music and how different voices can come together on a track. Music felt natural to me from a very young age. Maybe that's why, throughout my journey, rappers seemed to naturally gravitate towards working with me. I understood the emotion, the storytelling and the role my voice could play in bringing a record to life. At five years old I was just having fun, but those early experiences definitely helped shape the artist I became.

4. Push Push Baby feels like a statement. What was the energy in the studio when creating it?

The energy was very 'push, push, go, go, go.' I'd actually changed my song choice at the last minute, so Push Push Baby was written around 48 hours before the shoot. The beat was made on the spot and everything came together really quickly. There wasn't time to overthink it, it was just pure energy, creativity and momentum. Even though the process moved fast, the song itself felt smooth, uplifting and positive from the beginning. We just followed the energy and trusted it.

5. The message is all about strength and new beginnings. What inspired that direction?

Multiple things inspired that direction. The hook is inspired by motherhood and uses childbirth as a metaphor. When you're giving birth, there's no turning back, you have to keep pushing through, and I realised that's true of life as well.

I wanted the message to be relatable to everyone because we all go through periods where we don't think we're going to make it through, but somehow we do. In my case, that low point was postpartum, which inspired the first verse. The second verse is about being proud of how far you've come, even if where you've reached is someone else's starting point. Ultimately, it's about resilience, new beginnings and trusting your journey.

6. Your sound blends R&B and pop with real-life stories. How do you keep it so honest?

I think it comes from being genuine with my emotions. Some songs are based on real experiences, and some come from a vision of where I see myself going. I'm a bit of a dreamer, so sometimes I'm writing from hope, ambition or imagining a future version of myself. Whether it's something I've lived or something I'm striving towards, the emotion behind it is always real, and that's what keeps the music honest.

7. Waiting has hit over 18 million Spotify streams. Did you expect that kind of love?

Not at all. When I was creating Waiting, I was completely consumed by the sound, the feeling and the direction of the record. I wasn't thinking about streams or how successful it might become. It didn't even have a proper industry rollout at the time, it was originally only available as a free download. That's why it's so amazing to look back now and see it reach over 18 million streams. It reminds me that when music genuinely connects with people, it can take on a life of its own and travel much further than you ever imagined

8. Do you ever look back at Waiting and see it differently now?

Yeah, I do. One thing it showed me is that no matter how much the world changes, there will always be a place for authentic music. We're moving into an era of AI and new technology, but Waiting reminded me that sometimes a genuine message and real emotion are enough to cut through. What's amazing is that the song continues to grow every year, which shows the message is still connecting with people.

I also see the song differently because the meaning evolved. When I originally wrote it, it was inspired by leaving home at a young age and trying to find my place in the world. When I passed the record to Skrapz, it took on a new meaning and connected with people in a different way, particularly those waiting for loved ones in prison. That's the beauty of music—once it's out in the world, people find their own meaning in it

9. You have worked with artists like Tion Wayne on Lavish Living. What did you take from that experience?

What I took from experiences like that is to trust my own sauce. A lot of the time when rappers have reached out to work with me, they haven't sent references or told me to follow a particular trend, they've just said, 'Do your thing.' That taught me that people were coming to me for what I naturally bring to a record, not because I was trying to sound like someone else.

It's given me more confidence to trust myself creatively and believe in my own voice. As I say in Push Push Baby, there was a time I didn't think I'd make it here, so it's a reminder to keep pushing and believe in yourself even when you can't yet see the bigger picture.

10. How do collaborations shape your growth as an artist?

I think collaborations are great for growth because they bring new inspiration, new energy and new perspectives. They can push you beyond your comfort zone and encourage you to explore sounds you might not have discovered on your own. They also introduce your music to different audiences, which is always exciting. Every collaboration teaches you something new, whether it's creatively, musically or even about yourself as an artist.

11. Push Push Baby highlights motherhood and resilience. Why was that story important for you to tell?

It was important because, as a singer, my experiences and struggles are different from a lot of the stories you typically hear in music. I've always had that hustler mentality, but mine comes from navigating motherhood, rebuilding, growing and continuing to chase my dreams despite the challenges.

I wanted to shine a light on that because I don't think that journey gets celebrated enough. Although the song is inspired by my own experiences, the message is universal. We all face moments where life feels difficult, and Push Push Baby is a reminder to keep going, keep believing in yourself and keep pushing forward.

12. The M U M Project sounds powerful. What made you want to build something beyond music?

I wanted to build something beyond music because I felt there was room for a different conversation. A lot of music celebrates success, lifestyle and having a good time, and there's absolutely a place for that. But I also wanted to create something that shines a light on wellbeing, personal growth, confidence and overcoming challenges.

The M.U.M Project, which stands for Me, U & More, is my way of extending those conversations beyond the music. As a mum, an artist and someone who's had to find strength during some difficult seasons, I wanted to create something that reminds people they're capable of growing through whatever life throws at them. It's about creating a community where people feel understood, supported and encouraged to keep growing.

13. What can people expect from the M U M Project in real terms?

Music will always be at the centre of it, but people can expect more than just music. The M.U.M Project is about bringing the message to life through experiences, conversations, content and opportunities that encourage people to invest in themselves.

We've already started that with the Push Push Baby giveaway in partnership with Dede Aesthetics, where we gave supporters the chance to win £500 worth of treatments. For me, that's what the project is about, creating positive experiences and encouraging people to look after themselves, both inside and out.

Going forward, people can expect more initiatives centred around confidence, wellbeing, personal growth and genuine connection. It's also opened the door for me to launch my new mini-series, B Anca Unseen, across TikTok and Instagram, where I'll be sharing more of the real person behind the music.

At its heart, Me, U & More is about reminding people that wherever they are in life, they can keep moving forward and become the best version of themselves.

14. When fans press play on Push Push Baby, what feeling should stay with them?

I'd want people to feel hopeful and encouraged to keep going. The song is about those moments in life when things feel so difficult that you don't know how you're going to get through them. Sometimes there isn't anyone to depend on, and you have to find the strength within yourself, even when all hope feels lost.

Push Push Baby isn't just about the everyday push, it's about that deeper push that gets you through the hardest seasons of your life. I hope people listen to it and realise they're stronger than they think, because one day they might look back and see that the tears they cried became happy tears.

15. What is next for you and how does this release set the tone for what's coming next?

Push Push Baby is the start of a new chapter for me. The song shares parts of my story and experiences in a way I haven't really done before, and it's also opened the door for me to start sharing more of myself through my new mini-series, B Anca Unseen, on TikTok and Instagram.

People can expect more than just music. There'll be more from The M.U.M Project, more conversations around motherhood, growth and wellbeing, but also plenty of music touching on everyday experiences like love, relationships, life and everything in between. There are also some exciting collaborations in the pipeline.

This release sets the tone because it's rooted in honesty, resilience and growth. It's me stepping back into music with a clearer sense of who I am and inviting people to come along for the journey.
