Slowdive

Tibo Step's Slowdive is the kind of track that rewards close listening. Rather than chasing obvious hooks or big moments, the Geneva born, London based composer and producer leans into atmosphere, creating a song that feels suspended between longing and reflection. Built from modulated guitars, vintage synth textures and field recordings, the production evokes the sensation of wandering through a city after dark while feeling disconnected from the crowds around you.

What makes Slowdive particularly compelling is its commitment to mood. The track embraces stillness and restraint, allowing its emotions to emerge gradually rather than demanding attention. At times, its sparse approach may leave listeners wanting a stronger melodic focal point, but that choice also reinforces the song's central themes of isolation and quiet introspection. The result is an immersive listen that feels honest and unforced.

Tibo Step brings an impressive musical pedigree to the release. A Guildhall School of Music graduate who studied with Lionel Loueke and Wolfgang Muthspiel, he has collaborated across London's thriving independent scene. His Shadows EP was co written with Hana Amaya, a Roundhouse Resident Artist and London Jazz Festival performer, while a track from the project is set to appear on Gilles Peterson's Future Bubblers 9.0 compilation. He is also a live member of Lavender, whose album was named BBC Album of the Year, and has performed alongside artists including Puma Blue.

With support from BBC Radio, Wordplay Mag and Apple Music's New in Alternative playlist, Slowdive demonstrates Tibo Step's ability to translate complex emotions into richly detailed soundscapes. It is a thoughtful and atmospheric release that favours depth over immediacy, offering listeners a subtle but rewarding journey into his artistic world
