black, free and beautiful

Moonga K invokes the perfect mantra for what it means to be ‘black, free and beautiful’.

The Zambian neo-soul starlight returns with his fourth song of the year. Throughout this affirming new single, passionate, soul-rich vocals highlight the challenges Black people continue to face within this 'progressive' world. From having to convince others the aggressive gene does not exist; to robbing Black Joy and its fullest potential.

Go read a book or something, my people are tired!

We may be the joyous human beings alive

But we don’t have time for no bullshit

Mute your lip, you imitate that melanin cool for your benefit

In an interview with AboutToBlow, Moonga K stated:

I wrote this song after watching the penultimate episode of Lovecraft Country which, was a visceral re-telling of the Tulsa Massacre, just like any showcase of black trauma that every black person engages with, I was filled with rage and sadness, and I was extremely triggered. I had a studio session the day after with Greg, and on the bus ride to the studio, I was hit with the chorus melody and it was relentlessly playing in my head.

Already possessing a vibrant catalogue, Moonga K’s new powerful addition aligns with his activist journey sent from the future “to disrupt the status quo”.
