Fantasies Reimagined

An exciting addition to the budding alternative soul scene, Freya Roy recruits Gabriel Gifford and Maya Law for ‘Fantasies Reimagined’; an intoxicating sliver of murky ambience. 

The British-German singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist has garnered acclaim for her diverse approach to writing, knocking down the walls of nu-jazz, neo-soul and alternative R&B to merge a sound of sophisticated refinement. This new offering is an extension of her elegant 2020 release ‘Fantasies’, as Freya amalgamates her stylistic direction with the help of accomplished Berlin-based producer Gabriel Gifford, as well as the richly textured vocals of Maya Law. 

Speaking on the releasee, Freya commented:

“The track is about innermost desires, desperation and of course fantasising. Like with a lot of tunes, I found myself writing this in a time of confusion in a past relationship and looking back now, the lyrics were a message to future me, telling me to leave for something I wanted but felt ashamed to admit - which was for another person. Inspired by the Blue Note Re:imagined release, ‘Fantasies Reimagined’ involves Gabriel Gifford who brings a new, ambient and darker twist to the track.”

A thematically dense and sonically compelling effort, this is a superb collaboration from three of the brightest names within the underground jazz and soul scenes.
