Firing Squad

There is a certain flair to the understated nature of DC’s raps. Fresh off supporting US rapper, Cordae, on the UK leg of his tour earlier this month, he returns with the captivating new single Firing Squad.

After the release of the emil-produced single The Latest earlier this year, we see DC reunite with long-time collaborator TSB. Blending a soulful melody with his personal brand of deft lyrical waxings, the Southeast Londoner narrates tales of growing up on his ends. He painstakingly details his navigation of hurdles and pressures during such a formative time in his youth.

The provocative single arrived alongside a highly stylised visual. Tayler Prince-Fraser, the creative mind behind the direction, delivered a minimal black and white video. We see the focus on hooded figures of young black boys against a white studio backdrop, moving with the semblance of shadows. Each scene is a re-enactment of decisions DC made during his childhood and their long-standing effects.
