Lon-Don

5eb is back with a ridiculous new anthem in the lively ‘Lon-Don’ – and when I say ridiculous I mean ridiculous, maybe even disgusting.

Now I know I may be a little late to the scene reviewing this one, but clearly I’ve been taking this one in so much I almost forgot to pitch it to the guys over here at The Pit – but as they say, better late than never right?

18 years of age with the poise of a veteran in the game. 5eb continues to exceed expectations as he makes it absolutely crystal clear why he’s one of the coldest coming from ‘North Side of the Lon-Don’. With notable tracks such as ‘Scum!’ and ‘5unny’ showcasing his renowned punchy melodies with a touch of auto-tune that’ve helped him find his way into any ‘underground UK rap’ playlist about. 5eb takes note from grittier bodies of work within his discography like ‘5orryMyBad!’ from his debut album ‘Childi5h’ for this new entry.

Eased into a sweet sounding set of keys accompanied by what seems to be reversed drum symbols, all setting a soothing atmosphere –  a steady collection of high hats and muddy 808 slides follow, leading you to believe you’re on the road to some sort of ‘melodic drill type beat’. Well, this is until ‘goated’ producer Raf Riley slaps you in the face with a bass so filthy, I can only describe it as leaving me with a screw face while I shake my head in disgust, instantly going to re-up the intro one more time. You’ve got to take this one in.

Now Raf may have set the foundation with some of the coldest production I’ve heard in some time, but 5eb truly seals this masterpiece with those catchy one liners of his flows exuding effortless confidence – nothing new for him though. To be honest I’m not quite sure what sticks with me more: the infectious hook that 5eb reals us in with or the continuous punchy two syllable ending chorus.

However, one thing for sure is that the visuals courtesy of Archie Erksine consolidate the care-free soundscape. From framing 5eb and his circle having a drink up as they dabble in ‘champagne shots’ to contrasting scenes of the North Londoner casually getting a fresh fade as he recites the pungent tune. Personally, the call from Archie to layer potent bars like ‘and he always comes tru with packs!’ with the spirited vocal backing from 5eb’s circle was what the track needed to transcend the audio. This is bound to get shelled at shows once everything settles.

5eb has an inkling 2021 may be his year to ‘pop’ and, alongside exemplar bodies of work such as this, I don’t see why he won’t. In my eyes, if there’s a few more in the vault of this calibre, I think 5eb may just go clear this year!
