Heihachi Riddim
Godwin and God Knows bring Irish hip hop and Tekken nostalgia together on “Heihachi Riddim”, a grimey, gully banger packed with unpredictable flows, sharp references and plenty of personality. Inspired by the legendary fighting game, God Knows compares himself to Tekken characters including Heihachi, Kazuya, Anna and Yoshimitsu, confidently casting himself as the Heihachi of Irish music, the one who simply refuses to be knocked out.
The chemistry is no surprise. Godwin previously produced three tracks on God Knows’ 2022 EP “We Move the Needle”, including “Glory”, while the pair also worked together on “It’s Been a While” from God Knows’ debut solo album “A Future of the Past”. Now taking joint billing, they sound completely at home.
God Knows has been described by The Quietus as standing proudly at the helm of Irish hip hop, while his work with Rusangano Family earned the 2016 Choice Music Prize for Album of the Year, the first hip hop record to win the award. Godwin brings his genre jumping production skills, making “Heihachi Riddim” feel like a musical Tekken tournament where every round hits harder than the last.
